Overcoming fear and living up to your highest potential with Taylor Wray - SOUL PODCAST EPISODE #8

Our Deepest Fear By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small Does not serve the world.

There's nothing enlightened about shrinking So that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, As children do.

We were born to make manifest The glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; It's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we're liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.

What line in the Her Soul Story manifesto speaks to you the most? Why? When fear knocks, I let courage answer the door. For many, many years I allowed fear to paralyze me and hold me back from living in my highest potential. I had to learn over time to feel the fear, and do it anyway. Now, I know I can’t bypass fear, I can only make space for it.

How do you define a soul story? A soul story is created by our own personal unique experiences. I believe it evolves and is born out of living in our shadow self, in darkness and in a space of rock bottom for many of us. Those who are living in their soul story always inspire me by how they are impacting the world and sharing their truth authentically.

What is one of the best life lessons you have learned so far? To trust myself. Every single time in my life I did not trust myself, I continued down a path that was not aligned. I have learned over the years how to listen to myself and trust my intuition. Now, I can clearly feel what is aligned and I continue to follow this…it always leads me to the right place.

What inspires you? I am inspired by those who have overcome adversity, living in their truth and following their heart. I am always inspired by others living in their zone of genius. Magic happens when we are doing exactly what we are meant to do in life.

What motivates you? I am motivated everyday by the work I am fortunate to be doing in the world. I feel very grateful to be sharing my greatest love and passion with those around me. I am motivated by witnessing the healing results of sharing mindfulness tools to help those with trauma, anxiety, depression and self doubt.

Do you have a daily practice that you do not miss? I don’t have a consistent daily practice but I do have a practice that varies. Some days it comes in the form of movement and connecting to myself whether it’s through restorative yoga, flow, yoga nidra or working out. Other days it looks like writing down and visualizing what I am grateful for in my life and what I want to manifest into my life.

If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be? That school was not at all how life would be. School in general was one of the hardest things for me…academically and socially. I struggled to learn and comprehend and I struggled to ‘fit in’. I based my self worth on who I was in school which took me down emotionally and led me into dark places with addiction, toxic relationships and suicidal thoughts. I was so attached to this concept that the rest of my life was going to be a struggle just like everything in school was… that I wouldn’t be smart and find a job, that I wouldn’t have friends and understand how to ‘do life’. I wish we learned mindfulness tools in school for self awareness, luckily I began learning this on my own at 15.

Who is the community you surround yourself with and why is that important to you? The community I surround myself with is amazing! I am so grateful for the wonderful friendships I have. They are the go getters and dreamers who have huge visions and make it happen! I am always so inspired by my friends. I believe it is so important to have a community of support. I have been in a mastermind group with four of the most incredible women for 10 months now. We meet once a month to share about our challenges, fears, visions, goals and dreams and support each other in any way that is needed. This has shown me just how important it is to be surrounded by people that lift each other up.

Please share one of your Soul Stories with us. What was the greatest gift you received from this experience? The most life altering experience I have been through is with addiction. I struggled with addiction for 9 years of my life and wouldn’t change a thing looking back….minus hurting those I love dearly. I had to go through this experience to become the person I am today. My yoga practice is what helped me the most in my recovery and when I was sober I decided to go through yoga teacher training. Yoga and mindfulness taught me how to feel, how to listen and how to respond to my own unique needs. Learning to become a yoga instructor was the most challenging thing for me, I was terrified of being seen and being vulnerable. I was painfully shy growing up and felt sick every single time I had to present or do any type of public speaking. Learning to teach yoga gave me horrible anxiety and the fear paralyzed me. I ended up quitting after my first month of teaching because I couldn’t handle the anxiety I felt and thought I wasn’t meant to be a yoga teacher. A few years later I knew I had to try again, it was always on my mind and I knew if I couldn’t overcome my fear I would never live my life in my highest self. I decided to go through another yoga teacher training and committed to doing whatever it took to make it happen! Fast forward to now and I have been teaching yoga full time for almost 4 years, leading yoga and mindfulness retreats around the world and training yoga instructors through yoga teacher trainings and workshops. My addiction is what led me to discovering yoga and the yoga lifestyle and now I get to share this beautiful healing practice with the world.
